HORRORxSCIFI (HSF) is an audience and filmmaker forward platform.
HSF is different. Our purpose is twofold:
- To connect audience around the world with movies they won't get the chance to see elsewhere. New filmmakers. Different presentations. New ideas.
- To give independent filmmakers access to the audience, which mainstream distribution networks do not permit (intentionally or because of poor distribution structures).
When an independent film goes on a platform like Netflix or Peacock, or Tubi, they never, ever get actual statistics or the ability to find out who exactly is interested in their film. There is always an aggregator or distributor (or several) in between the filmmaker and the audience, each of whom takes a cut of revenues and none of whom has the ability or motivation to question or monitor actual viewer and revenue statistics.
Most platforms treat their films like burger joints treat their hamburgers: every one is the same so there's no reason to treat a specific one as special. So the audience is never permitted to follow or connect with particular filmmakers, productions or cast or crew. They never get to know what other films that filmmaker is involved with. They never get access to schedules, events or merchandise around their films. They are consider simple consumers, usually handled by an algorithm which tracks their behavior, so their information can be sold to third parties.
Over several years, the Independent Producers Guild (IPG) worked on systems and structures to change this. Structures which would permit a filmmaker to reach the globe, without paying 30%-90% or more of their profits to gatekeepers and middle actors. The IPG created the Direct To Audience initiative, which in turn developed a paradigm called FilmPod. FillmPod is designed to give the independent filmmaker all the tools available to a major streamer, like Peacock or Netflix, and to facilitate, as far as reasonable and protective of privacy, a connection between audience and filmmaker, and to allow her to stream to the world.
It's a new idea. HSF is the first iteration of the FilmPod paradigm. We expect it will be successful. We hope you will support it.
